Proud of Mo & Kie: Fellowship successfully completed!

Since July 2024, our Research Field Officers Mo and Kie have been part of the Coexistence Impact Fellowship, supported by the Cincinnati Zoo & Botanical Garden. Through mentoring, field-based learning, research support, and international exchange, the fellowship has helped them grow as conservation leaders working at the heart of human–elephant coexistence in Thailand.

The study

Their study focused on understanding what drives elephant habitat use in the agricultural landscape outside Kui Buri National Park. Across 21 villages, they walked more than 410 km of transects and recorded 328 elephant signs, helping reveal how elephants move through shared landscapes.

Their findings will help change how we design conservation and coexistence strategies around protected areas. We are excited to continue developing this work and share the results through a scientific publication.

A heartfelt thank you to Cincinnati Zoo & Botanical Garden for investing in local conservation leadership and supporting the next generation of coexistence researchers.

Congratulations, Mo and Kie — we are so proud of you!
